Reminiscing. I read this and cried. i got that feeling you get right before you compete. That feeling where youre not sure whether you want to cry, smile, throw up, piss your pants or run screaming in the other direction. That feeling you get as you walk out onto the mat and all you can see is lights and the outline of people and the judges and you hear everyone cheering as you stand there waiting for the music to start. Your hearts racing and you could swear you’ve never smiled so hard in your life. That feeling when you hit that stunt or tumbling pass and all thats going through your head is “hell ya bitches!!!” and your insides are dancing like you won the lottery. And most of all, that feeling you get when youre sitting there, holding onto your teammates hands with the grip of death and your eyes closed as tight as possible and im pretty sure nobody was breathing, you could hear a pin drop, as they announce that your team had won first place! All those feeling came rushing back from this one piece of paper in a box. A box full of everything from old liners to disney world park hopper tickets from my first nationals. Pictures of old friends, teammates, coaches, your family. I recently was thinking why the hell am i still doing this after so many years of this same bull. And this. This is why. Because theres this irreplaceable feeling you get when you put that uniform on, that bow in your hair, the glitter on your eyes, and step out in front of a crowd and all you can smell is hair spray. If youve never felt it youll never know but this is why im a cheerleader still after all these years. I thought i had lost my passion for the sport but this one piece of paper brought it all back. I will ALWAYS be a cheerleader.
